Graphic design trends for the 2023.
As in the fashion industry, interior design and other design disciplines, trends come and go. In 2022, many trends will leave us, but some will remain.
In this article, we will look at some trend predictions for graphic design in the 2023. From typography, colors and different styles, these are some trends we think will dominate design and marketing in the coming year.
Typography
What will the world of typography look like in 2023. ? The design industry is always changing and evolving, and typography is no exception.
Here are a few trends we think will be big in 2023:
1. Distorted fonts
Take a look around the web and you’ll see a new wave of type experimentation. Letters are pushed, pulled and broken to create interesting new versions of classic letters. This trend is driven by the popularity of retro and vintage designs, as well as the desire to create more striking designs that attract attention.
Expect more designers playing with letter layouts, as well as those experimenting with different typefaces. This is a trend based on having fun with typography, so experimentation is welcome.
2. Geometric Sans Serif
While distorted typography is all about having fun typing, this trend is all about simplicity and cleanliness. Geometric sans-serifs are fonts based on simple geometric shapes, such as circles, squares, and triangles. This gives them a clean and modern look that is perfect for minimalist design.
Geometric sans-serifs are becoming increasingly popular as more designers focus on creating clean and minimalist designs. This trend is perfect for those who want to create simple and effective designs that are easy to read and look great.
3. Display fonts
It is predicted that in 2023 be a big year for display fonts. This is due to the growing popularity of digital ads and the need for brands to make a bigger impression. Display fonts will be used more for titles and short blocks of text. They will be bold and eye-catching, and some will even be 3D.
Style
1. Metaverse
We will begin to see design trends influenced by the metaverse, a shared virtual space created by the convergence of the physical and digital worlds. This trend is driven by the popularity of augmented and virtual reality, as well as the increasing use of artificial intelligence.
Expect to see more designs based on virtual reality, as well as designs influenced by artificial intelligence. This is a trend that’s all about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, so don’t be afraid to experiment.
AR and VR integration
With the rise of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technology, it is only natural that we will see greater integration of these platforms into the world of graphic design. Designers will need to learn how to create content that can be viewed through AR and VR headsets, and we can expect to see more AR and VR experiences being used for marketing and advertising purposes.
Designs generated by artificial intelligence
As artificial intelligence (AI) technology continues to develop, we will begin to see more AI-generated designs. This can be anything from a simple logo design to complex website layouts. AI will be able to create designs that are unique and tailored to the specific needs of the client.
2. Motion Graphics design
There is an increasing demand for motion graphics, that is, graphics that are designed to be reproduced in sequence. This is due to the popularity of video and the increasing use of social media.
Expect to see more motion graphics-based designs as well as video-influenced designs. This is a trend that aims to make a strong impression, so don’t be afraid to experiment.
3. 3D design
3D design will become even more popular in 2023. , as more and more designers focus on creating realistic designs. This trend is fueled by the increasing use of virtual reality and the need for more realistic and immersive experiences.
Expect to see more 3D-based designs as well as VR-influenced designs. This is a trend that is about pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
4. The 90s are still here
Design trends from the 90s, which dominated in 2022. will return in 2023.. The popularity of nostalgic design, as well as the desire to create more fun and playful designs, makes this style still in demand.
Expect a wide variety of 90s-inspired designs, both in other industries and in graphic design. This is a trend that is all about having fun and making a strong impression.
Try experimenting with different ’90s-inspired styles and see what works best for you.
5. Brutalism
Brutalism or brutalist design is characterized by heavy use of black and white, large top and bottom margins, and strict text alignment. Designers following this trend often use grid-based layouts to keep their designs clean and tidy. Although brutalism has been around since the 1950s, it has become popular again in recent years, especially among young designers, and this trend will continue in the new year.
6. Photographic branding
The rise of brand personalization and the popularity of stock photos have led to a new trend in graphic design: photographic branding. By using real photos of people and products instead of relying on abstract graphics or computer-generated images, companies can create a more personal and unique brand identity. This trend is especially popular with small companies and start-ups that want to stand out from the competition.
7. Liquid Gradient
Big design trend for 2023. is the liquid gradient. This involves taking two colors and gradually blending them in a way that looks smooth and natural. This can be done with any combination of colors, but the most popular are green and blue shades.
This trend is popular because it creates a soothing and relaxing feeling. It is also very visually interesting and can add a lot of depth to a design.
If you’re considering using a liquid gradient in your own work, consider using a color scheme that’s inspired by nature. This will help create a cohesive look that is both stylish and calming.
8. Surrealistic maximalism
One graphic design trend that is predicted to continue to grow in popularity is surrealist maximalism. This style is characterized by bold colors, busy patterns and exaggerated proportions. It often includes elements that are not normally found together, such as mixing natural elements with man-made objects. This style draws attention, making it ideal for luxury brands and other businesses that want to stand out.
9. Dark mode
Another trend that is predicted to become more popular in the next few years is the dark mode design. This type of design uses a dark color palette and is often used for websites and applications that are used in low light conditions. The dark mode design can be easier on the eyes and can save battery life. This trend is likely to become more popular as people increasingly use their devices in low-light conditions.
10. Minimal vintage
This style combines the minimalism of the mid-20th century with vintage elements from the beginning of the century. This style is characterized by clean lines, simple shapes and muted colors. It often includes vintage elements such as typewriters, cameras and other retro items.
11. Branded Illustrations
This type of design is created specifically for a brand and often includes the company’s logo or mascot. It is often used for marketing materials, such as website headers, social media posts and advertising. This trend is likely to become more popular as businesses increasingly focus on creating a unique and recognizable brand identity.
12. Bold minimalism
This style is characterized by clean lines, simple shapes and bold colors. It is often used for websites and applications that need to be easy to use and navigate. This trend is likely to become more popular as companies focus more on customer experience.
Logo
2023 looks to be an interesting year for logo design. We see a lot of innovative and unique designs that break the mold.
Some of the trends we will see in the coming year are:
1. Ideographic logo (icon)
A logo that uses an image or symbol to represent a company rather than its name is called an ideographic logo. A logo without typography, but only with an icon, is a big upcoming trend.
One of the advantages of an ideographic logo is that it can be easily recognized and remembered even by those who do not speak the same language as the company. This can be a huge advantage for companies looking to expand their reach to a global audience. Additionally, ideographic logos can be very versatile and can be used in a variety of marketing materials and applications.
However, there are also some challenges that come with designing an ideographic logo. First of all, it is important to choose an image or symbol that is meaningful and suitable for the company. Using the wrong image could send the wrong message to customers.
2. Geometric shapes
A geometric logo is a logo that contains geometric shapes. This trend is popular because it creates a clean and modern look. Geometric shapes also have a wide range of meanings, so they can be used to convey various messages. For example, a triangle can represent strength, while a circle can represent unity.
3. Vintage logo
A vintage logo is a logo that is inspired by designs from the past. This trend is popular because it can help brands look nostalgic and reliable. Logos inspired by designs from the past often have a simple design and earthy colors.
4. Animated logo
An animated logo is a logo that contains animation. As we have already said, the popularity of motion graphics design is growing, so the logo is no exception. This trend is popular because it can help brands look fun and energetic. Animated logos are often playful and attractive.
5. Minimalism, not realism
We see a lot of logos that are minimalistic and use symbolism to convey their message. This is a departure from the more realistic designs we’ve seen in the past. This trend has been present for a couple of years, but it will continue in 2023. There are many examples where large corporations have simplified their logos to make them look more modern and to make the design cleaner.
6. Size Matters
We also see a lot of logos that are much larger than they used to be. This is probably due to the popularity of social media and the need to be seen on smaller screens. Logos must be designed with these smaller screens in mind, which means they must be legible and recognizable at smaller sizes.
7. Logos are becoming more personalized
As businesses become more aware of the importance of personalization, we’re seeing more and more logos designed to reflect the brand’s individual personality. This trend is likely to continue as companies strive to differentiate themselves from the competition. We are moving away from logos that all looked alike and leaning towards uniqueness. Thus, for example, restaurants do not necessarily need to have food symbols in their logos, but can instead show their personality: luxurious, relaxed, environmentally conscious, etc.
8. Functionality becomes more important
As companies increasingly focus on user experience, the trend is leaning towards logos that are designed to be functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. This is a positive development as it means brands are thinking more about how their logos can be used effectively.
9. Mascots
A mascot is a person, animal or object that represents a group or organization. Mascots are often used to promote a product or company, and can be a fun and effective way to raise brand awareness.
Although some companies have been using mascots for years, the trend is likely to become even more popular in the next few years. As more and more companies look for ways to stand out from the crowd, a unique and memorable mascot logo can be a great way to do just that.
If you are considering creating a mascot logo for your company, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you should make sure your mascot is right for your brand. A cartoon character may not be the best example for a serious business. Second, you’ll want to make sure your mascot is unique and eye-catching. A boring or generic mascot is unlikely to attract people’s attention.
Finally, you’ll want to make sure your mascot is easy to remember.
10. Candy-core logo
The growing popularity of the Candy-core logo is no surprise, given the current aesthetic trends. These logos are playful and nostalgic and can be used to convey a sense of fun and childlike innocence. However, candy-core logos can also be used to convey a more sophisticated message. For example, a candy logo can be used for a luxury brand that sells high-end children’s products. In this case, the logo should be designed in a way that conveys both the playful and luxurious aspects of the brand.
11. Lowercase letter logo
Typefaces that are all lowercase, with no capital first letter is a trend that took off in 2022, and shows no signs of slowing down in 2023 either.
This logo style is simple and clean and can be used to convey a variety of messages. For example, a lowercase logo can be used for a brand that focuses on environmental sustainability. In this case, the logo should be designed in a way that conveys the brand’s commitment to sustainability. Alternatively, a lowercase logo can be used for a brand that is focused on minimalism. In this case, the logo should be designed in a way that conveys the brand’s commitment to simplicity.
12. Y2K design
This logo style was popular in the early 2000s and is characterized by the use of geometric shapes and bright colors. The Y2K logo design is often considered a more playful and relaxed alternative to other logo styles. However, it can also be used to convey a more serious message. For example, the Y2K logo can be used for a forward-looking brand. In this case, the logo should be designed in a way that conveys the brand’s commitment to the future.
13. Decorative monograms
This logo style is characterized by the use of intricate details and embellishments. Decorative monograms are often considered a more sophisticated and luxurious alternative to other logo styles.
COLORS
As we enter the new year, we begin to see new color trends emerge in the design world.
Here are some color trends to watch out for in 2023:
1. Bold and bright colors
We are seeing a move away from the muted colors that have been popular in recent years. Designers instead opt for bold and bright colors to give a strong impression to the design. This trend is especially popular in graphic design and advertising.
2. Barbiecore pink
At the end of this year, a strong trend of Barbiecore pink color in design began. That is why it is expected that this trend will continue in 2023.
Barbie pink is back in response to minimalist design, to which this pink gives a good balance and helps it stand out without losing its simplicity.
3. Pantone
Every year the Pantone Color Institute chooses the color of the year. Pantone is the world-renowned color authority. The “Color of the Year” serves as inspiration for fashion, design and art.
In 2020 their choice was Classic Blue (PANTONE 19-4052), which they describe as “instilling calmness, trust and connection”.
For 2021 they chose two colors, Ultimate Gray (PANTONE 17-5104) and Illuminating (PANTONE 13-0647), which they say “symbolize solid and reliable elements” as well as “hope and positivity.”
For 2022, the color of the year for a few more weeks was Very Peri (PANTONE 17-3938), which they said “illustrates the fusion of modern life and how color trends in the digital world translate into the physical world and vice versa.”
You can find more of Pantone’s past colors of the year on their site.
Color of the 2023
A few days ago, Pantone announced the color of the year for 2023. Their choice is Viva Magenta 18-750. This rich red color was chosen because it “balances boldness with a sense of fun. This dynamic blend exudes rebellion, but not at the expense of softness. It embodies an expression of fierce grace, inspiring us to show up with confidence and humanity.”
We believe that we will see this color a lot in the design of 2023.
CONCLUSION
Although these are trend predictions for 2023, we know that many trends disappear faster than we hoped, and some new ones appear. So you should always be up to date with new information and follow how the industry is moving.
We wish you a successful 2023. Full of good design!
